Crafters of Tennessee is now showcasing the Prodigal 5 Tennessee Mandolin, the reproduction of the only known authentic Griffith A5 mandolin, built by renowned luthier, Lloyd Loar in 1923. Ever since Marks father, legendary musician Tut Taylor acquired this instrument in the early 1960s for his personal collection; Mark has toyed with the idea of reproducing it.
Mr. Taylor, along with his master luthiers will hand build 100 replicas of this historic instrument with either a hand varnished finish, or a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The price will reflect the use of the different finishes.
Coinciding with the historic release of the Prodigal 5, Crafters of Tennessee will re-release its celebrated TN5 line of mandolins. Only a handful of these instruments have been produced since the early 1980s.
